Let the work be over and done

And let God’s people say Amen.

All:             AMEN.

Leader:        Let the flowers close and the stars appear,

Let hearts be glad and minds be calm

A time for reflection and confession:

Leader:        O God, your fertile earth is slowly being stripped of its riches,

All:             Open our eyes to see.

Leader:        O God, your fertile waters are slowly being choked with chemicals            and plastics and waste.

All:             Open our eyes to see.

Leader:        O God, your clear air is slowly being filled with pollutants,

All:             Open our eyes to see.

Leader:        O God, your creatures are slowly dying

                   And your people are suffering

All:             Open our eyes to see.

Leader:        God our maker, so move us by the wonder of creation,

All:             That we repent and care more deeply.

Leader:        So move us to grieve the loss of life,

All:             That we learn to cherish and protect your world.

Leader:        May God who loves the world so much

That he sent his Son to be our saviour

                   Forgive us our sins

And make us holy to serve him in the world,

                   Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All:             Amen.

Leader:        Let us pray            (collect for 19th after Trinity)

All:             Faithful Lord,

                   Whose steadfast love never ceases

And whose mercies never come to an end:

Grant us the grace to trust you

And to receive the gifts of your love,

                   New every morning,

in Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Reading :   Amos 9: 13-15                      © NRSV

13 The time is surely coming, says the Lord,
when the one who ploughs shall overtake the one who reaps,
                   and the treader of grapes the one who sows the seed;
the mountains shall drip sweet wine,
and all the hills shall flow with it.
14 I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel,
                   and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them;
they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,
and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
15 I will plant them upon their land,
and they shall never again be plucked up
out of the land that I have given them,
                   says the Lord your God.

Affirmation of faith

Leader:        Let us declare our faith in God.

All              We believe in God the Father,

                   from whom every family

in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son,

who lives in our hearts through faith,

and fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit,

                   who strengthens us

                   with power from on high.

                   We believe in one God;

                   Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

                   Amen.

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

Then he told this parable: ‘A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and found none. So he said to the gardener, “See here! For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why should it be wasting the soil?” He replied, “Sir, let it alone for one more year, until I dig round it and put manure on it. If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.”’

Reflection from the Rectory

Now let us pray together

Time to Pray      (Prayers led by Barrie Crann )

We say the Lord’s Prayer together

                   Our Father in heaven,

                   Hallowed be your name,

                   Your kingdom come,

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,

Give us today our daily bread,

                   Forgive us our sins,

As we forgive those who sin against us,

Save us in the time of trial

                   And deliver us from evil,

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,

                   Now and forever. Amen.

Ending

Leader:        This we know, the earth does not belong to us,

All:             we belong to the earth

Leader:        This we know, all things are connected,

All:             Like the blood that unites one family.

Leader:        This we know, we did not weave the web of life,

All:             we are merely a strand in it.

Leader:        This we know, whatever we do to the web,

All:             we do to ourselves.

Leader:        let us give thanks for the gift of creation,

All:             Let us give thanks that all things hold together in Christ.

Leader:        Bless to us, O God,

All:             the moon that is above us,

The earth that is beneath us,

The friends who are around us,

                   Your image deep within us,

                   Amen.

And the blessing of God Almighty,

The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,

Be among you and remain with you always.

All:             Amen.

Leader:        We go into the world to walk in God’s light,

To rejoice in God’s love and to reflect God’s glory.

All:             Thanks be to God.
