Leader:        Introduction:

We worship Jesus Christ our crucified, risen, ascended Lord.

Over the past weeks we have remembered his journey of love that leads to our calling and blessing. We have remembered and we have rejoiced without the breaking of bread or the sharing of wine.

Now we gladly bow the knee before his throne,

We speak of the truth of his authority and we choose to follow where he leads.

We celebrate the gift of his Holy Spirit who is transforming our lives and gives us gifts to make known the grace and love of our Lord Jesus to the world.

Leader:        Let us pray that the Spirit of God will work through our lives to make Christ known to the world. (collect for Thy Kingdom Come)

All:             Almighty God,

                   Your ascended Son has sent us into the world

                   To preach the good news of your kingdom:

                   Inspire us with your Spirit

                   And fill our hearts with your love,

                   That all who hear your Word

                   May be drawn to you,

                   Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Pentecost Reading Acts 2: 1-21                       © The Message

2 1-4 When the Feast of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force—no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building. Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks, and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them.

5-11 There were many Jews staying in Jerusalem just then, devout pilgrims from all over the world. When they heard the sound, they came on the run. Then when they heard, one after another, their own mother tongues being spoken, they were thunderstruck. They couldn’t for the life of them figure out what was going on, and kept saying, “Aren’t these all Galileans? How come we’re hearing them talk in our various mother tongues?

Parthians, Medes, and Elamites;

Visitors from Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia,

Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia,

Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene;

Immigrants from Rome, both Jews and proselytes;

Even Cretans and Arabs!

“They’re speaking our languages, describing God’s mighty works!”

12 Their heads were spinning; they couldn’t make head or tail of any of it. They talked back and forth, confused: “What’s going on here?”

13 Others joked, “They’re drunk on cheap wine.”

Leader:        Be with us Spirit of God.

All:             nothing can separate us from your love.

Leader:        Breathe on us, breath of God;

All:             fill us with your saving power.

Leader:        Speak in us, Wisdom of God;

All:             bring strength, healing and peace.

All:             The Spirit of God fills the whole world. Alleluia.

  1. I will take you from the nations,

And gather you from all countries.

  1. I will sprinkle clean water upon you,

And your hearts shall be clean from all uncleannesses.

  1. A new heart I will give you,

And put a new spirit within you.

  1. And I will remove from your body the heart of stone

And give you a heart of flesh.

  1. You shall be my people,

And I will be your God.

All:             The Spirit of God fills the whole world. Alleluia.

Ezek 36: 24-26, 28b

We say the Lord’s Prayer together

                   Our Father in heaven,

                   Hallowed be your name,

                   Your kingdom come,

                   Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,

                   Give us today our daily bread,

                   Forgive us our sins,

                   As we forgive those who sin against us,

                   Save us in the time of trial

                   And deliver us from evil,

                   For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,

                   Now and forever. Amen.

2 Corinthians 1: 20-22         (the Voice)

20 In Jesus we hear a resounding “yes” to all of God’s many promises. This is the reason we say “Amen” to and through Jesus when giving glory to God. 21 Remember that God has established our relationship with you in the Anointed One, and He has anointed and commissioned us for this special mission22 He has marked us with His seal and placed His Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee, a down payment of the things to come.

Reflection from the Rectory

Now let us pray together

Time to Pray         (prayers from Martin and Jill Kingston )

Leader:        In gratitude, in deep gratitude

                   For this moment,

                   This place, these people,

                   We give ourselves to you.

All:             Take us out

                   To live as changed people,

                   Because we have been touched by the living Lord

                   And cannot remain the same.

Leader:        Ask much from us,

                   Expect much from us,

                   Enable much by us,

                   Encourage many through us.

All:             So, Lord, may we live to your glory,

                   Both as inhabitants of earth

                   And citizens of the commonwealth of heaven.

Blessing:    God poured out his promised Holy Spirit in tongues of flame on               the day of Pentecost.

All:             Amen.

                   You have been baptized with the Spirit and with fire.

All:             Amen.

                   May that same Holy Spirit send you out to tell his story,

                   And give you a voice to glorify God before all people.

All:             Amen.

                   And the blessing of God Almighty,

                   The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,

                   Be among you and remain with you always.

All:             Amen.

Leader:        Filled with the Spirit’s power,

                   Go in the light and peace of Christ. Alleluia, alleluia.

All:             Thanks be to God. Alleluia, alleluia.
