Collect for the seventh Sunday of Easter All: O God the King of glory, You have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ With great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: We beseech you, leave us not comfortless, But send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our saviour Christ is gone before, Who is alive and reigns with you, In the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever. Amen.
Leader: Glory be to you, All: God, our strength and our redeemer. Leader: Almighty God, Through the rising of your Son from the grave, You broke the power of the grave, You broke the power of death And condemned death itself to die.
As we celebrate this great triumph May we also make it the model for our living.
All: Help us to identify in our lives All that should rightly die - Redundant relationships, Tired habits, Fruitless longings.
Resurrect in our lives Faith, hope and love As surely you raised Jesus Christ from the grave. Amen.
We say the Lord’s Prayer together Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, Give us today our daily bread, Forgive us our sins, As we forgive those who sin against us, Save us in the time of trial And deliver us from evil, For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, Now and forever. Amen.
HYMN: AS THE DEER As the deer pants for the water So my soul longs after you You alone are my heart’s desire And I long to worship you
CHORUS You alone are my strength and shield To you alone may my spirit yield You alone are my heart’s desire And I long to worship you
I want you more than gold or silver Only you can satisfy You alone are the real joy-giver And the apple of my eye
CHORUS You’re my Friend and you’re my Brother Even though You are a king I love you more than any other So much more than anything
CHORUS
Our Readings: Psalm 68: 1-10 © NIV 1 May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; 4 Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, 7 When you, God, went out before your people,
John 17: 1-11 © NIV After Jesus said this, he looked towards heaven and prayed: ‘Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. 6 ‘I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.
Reflection (from Martin Kingston)
Time to Pray (prayers from )
Ending Leader: Today and tomorrow, All: Today and tomorrow,
Leader: Lo, I am with you always, All: When we try to do your will,
Leader: I am with you always, All: When we go Where we do not know,
Leader: I am with you always, All: When we meet One we do not recognise,
Leader: I am with you always, All: where faith ends and doubt begins,
Leader: I am with you always, All: and should we forget you….
Leader: I am with you always, All: Today and tomorrow, Today and tomorrow, You are with us always To the end of the world. Amen.
HYMN: IN CHRIST ALONE In Christ alone. my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again And as He stands in victory Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life’s first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell, no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand Till He returns or calls me home Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.
Blessing: May Christ, who makes saints of sinners, Who has transformed those we remember today, Raise and strengthen you that you may transform the world; And the blessing of God Almighty, The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Be among you and remain with you always, All: Amen.
Leader: Go in peace of Christ. Alleluia, alleluia. All: Thanks be to God. Alleluia, alleluia.
