A time for reflection and confession:
Leader: The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit; A broken and contrite heart God will not despise. Let us come to the Lord who is full of compassion, And acknowledge our transgressions in penitence and faith. c f Psalm51:17 All: My God, for love of you I desire to hate and forsake all sins By which I have ever displeased you; And I resolve by the help of your grace To commit them no more; And to avoid all opportunities for sin. Help me to do this, Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Leader: May Almighty God, Who sent his Son into the world to save sinners, Bring you his pardon and peace, now and for ever. Amen.
Collect Prayer:
God of heaven, You send the gospel to the ends of the earth And your messengers to every nation: Send your Holy Spirit to transform us By the good news of everlasting life In Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Reading : Exodus 3: 6-12 at the burning bush © The Message 6 Then God said, “I am the God of your father: The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.”
Moses hid his face, afraid to look at God.
7-8 God said, “I’ve taken a good, long look at the affliction of my people in Egypt. I’ve heard their cries for deliverance from their slave masters; I know all about their pain. And now I have come down to help them, pry them loose from the grip of Egypt, get them out of that country and bring them to a good land with wide-open spaces, a land lush with milk and honey,…...
9-10 “The Israelite cry for help has come to me, and I’ve seen for myself how cruelly they’re being treated by the Egyptians. It’s time for you to go back: I’m sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the People of Israel, out of Egypt.”
11 Moses answered God, “But why me? What makes you think that I could ever go to Pharaoh and lead the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
12 “I’ll be with you,” God said. “And this will be the proof that I am the one who sent you: When you have brought my people out of Egypt, you will worship God right here at this very mountain.”
PSALM 63: 1-8 1 O God, you are my God; eagerly I seek you; ♦ my soul is athirst for you. 2 My flesh also faints for you, ♦ as in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. 3 So would I gaze upon you in your holy place, ♦ that I might behold your power and your glory. 4 Your loving-kindness is better than life itself ♦ and so my lips shall praise you. 5 I will bless you as long as I live ♦ and lift up my hands in your name. 6 My soul shall be satisfied, as with marrow and fatness, ♦ and my mouth shall praise you with joyful lips, 7 When I remember you upon my bed ♦ and meditate on you in the watches of the night. 8 For you have been my helper ♦ and under the shadow of your wings will I rejoice.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son And to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Reading: John 20: 19-23 © The Message To Believe 19-20 Later on that day, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful of the Jews, had locked all the doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, “Peace to you.” Then he showed them his hands and side. 20-21 The disciples, seeing the Master with their own eyes, were awestruck. Jesus repeated his greeting: “Peace to you. Just as the Father sent me, I send you.” 22-23 Then he took a deep breath and breathed into them. “Receive the Holy Spirit,” he said. “If you forgive someone’s sins, they’re gone for good. If you don’t forgive sins, what are you going to do with them?”
Reflection from the Rectory ()
Affirmation of faith Leader: Let us affirm our faith in Jesus Christ the Son of God All: Though he was divine, He did not cling to equality with God, But made himself nothing. Taking the form of a slave, He was born in human likeness. He humbled himself And was obedient to death, Even the death of the cross. Therefore God has raised him on high, And given him the name above every name: That at the name of Jesus Every knee should bow, And every voice proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Amen. cf Phil 2 : 6-11
Now let us pray together Time to Pray (Prayers led by Liz & George Collins )
We say the Lord’s Prayer together Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, Give us today our daily bread, Forgive us our sins, As we forgive those who sin against us, Save us in the time of trial And deliver us from evil, For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, Now and forever. Amen.
Ending: Leader: From where we are to where you need us, All: Christ be beside us
From what we are to what you can make of us, All: Christ be before us.
From the mouthing of generalities To making signs of your kingdom, All: Christ be beneath us.
Through the streets of this world To the gates of heaven, All: Christ be above us.
Surround us with your presence, Inspire us with your purpose, Confirm us in your love. All: Amen.
Blessing: May God the Father, Who led the wise men by the shining of a star To find the Christ, the Light from Light, Lead you in your pilgrimage to find the Lord. Amen.
May God who has brought us out of darkness Give us a place with the saints in light In the kingdom of his Son. Amen.
May the light of the glorious gospel of Christ Shine in your hearts and transform your lives, To bring light to others. Amen.
and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. All Amen.
All: We go into the world to walk in God’s light, To rejoice in God’s love and to reflect God’s glory. Amen. Join us for coffee (bring your own) straight after the service via the Zoom link The Iona Community, Wild Goose Publications, Some material © the Archbishops Council 2000
