Sunday 14th June 2020                                                          Trinity 1

Leader:        Grace mercy and peace be with you

All:             and also with you.

Leader:        We come from scattered lives to meet with God.

Let us recognise his presence with us.

A moment of quiet as we call upon God and seek his presence

As God’s people we have gathered:

All:             let us worship him together.

Leader:        The world belongs to God,

All:             The earth and all its people.

Leader:        How good it is, how wonderful,

All:             To live together in unity.

Leader:        Love and faith come together,

All:             Justice and peace join hands.

Leader:        If Christ’s disciples keep silent

All:             These stones would shout aloud.

Leader:        Open our lips, O God,

All:             And our mouths shall proclaim your praise.

Leader:        The peace of the Lord be always with you

All:             And also with you.

A time for reflection and confession:

Leader:        Holy God, maker of all

All:             Have mercy on us.

Leader:        Jesus Christ, Servant of the poor

All:             Have mercy on us.

Leader:        Holy Spirit, Breath of life

All:             Have mercy on us.

silence

All:              Before God, with the people of God,

                   We confess to our brokenness:

To the ways we wound our lives,

                   The lives of others,

And the life of the world.

Leader:        May God forgive you, Christ renew you,

And the Spirit enable you to grow in love.

All:             Amen.

Leader:        Let us pray            (collect for 1st after Trinity)

All:             O God, the strength of all those

who put their trust in you,

                   mercifully accept our prayers

and, because through weakness of our mortal nature

we can do no good thing without you,

grant us the help of your grace,

that in the keeping of your commandments

                   we may please you both in will and deed;

                   through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God now and for ever.

                   Amen.

We say the Lord’s Prayer together

                   Our Father in heaven,

                   Hallowed be your name,

                   Your kingdom come,

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,

Give us today our daily bread,

                   Forgive us our sins,

As we forgive those who sin against us,

Save us in the time of trial

                   And deliver us from evil,

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,

                   Now and forever. Amen.

Reading :   Romans 1: 8-12  Prayer of Thanksgiving

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed throughout the world. For God, whom I serve with my spirit by announcing the gospel of his Son, is my witness that without ceasing I remember you always in my prayers, 10 asking that by God’s will I may somehow at last succeed in coming to you. 11 For I am longing to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 or rather so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.

Leader:        Be with us Spirit of God.

All:             nothing can separate us from your love.

Leader:        Breathe on us, breath of God;

All:             fill us with your saving power.

Leader:        Speak in us, Wisdom of God;

All:             bring strength, healing and peace.

Reading:    Romans 1: 18-25

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those who by their wickedness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse; 21 for though they knew God, they did not honour him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their senseless minds were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools; 23 and they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling a mortal human being or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen.
