All:             so that your faith and hope are set on God.

                                                                                                (1 Pet 1: 3, 21)

Leader:        (prayer)

                   Lord Jesus Christ,

Risen from death to life in the Father’s love,

Collect for the seventh Sunday of Easter

All:             O God the King of glory,

You have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ

With great triumph to your kingdom in heaven:

We beseech you, leave us not comfortless,

But send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to

the place where our saviour Christ is gone before,

Who is alive and reigns with you,

In the unity of the Holy Spirit,

One God, now and forever.                                      Amen.

Leader:        Glory be to you,

All:             God, our strength and our redeemer.

Leader:        Almighty God,

Through the rising of your Son from the grave,

You broke the power of the grave,

You broke the power of death

And condemned death itself to die.

As we celebrate this great triumph

May we also make it the model for our living.

All:             Help us to identify in our lives

All that should rightly die -

                   Redundant relationships,

                   Tired habits,

                   Fruitless longings.

                   Resurrect in our lives

                   Faith, hope and love

As surely you raised Jesus Christ from the grave.

                   Amen.

We say the Lord’s Prayer together

                   Our Father in heaven,

                   Hallowed be your name,

                   Your kingdom come,

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,

Give us today our daily bread,

                   Forgive us our sins,

As we forgive those who sin against us,

Save us in the time of trial

                   And deliver us from evil,

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,

                   Now and forever. Amen.

HYMN:      AS THE DEER

As the deer pants for the water

So my soul longs after you

You alone are my heart’s desire

And I long to worship you

                   CHORUS

You alone are my strength and shield

To you alone may my spirit yield

You alone are my heart’s desire

And I long to worship you

I want you more than gold or silver

                   Only you can satisfy

You alone are the real joy-giver

And the apple of my eye

                   CHORUS

You’re my Friend and you’re my Brother

Even though You are a king

I love you more than any other

                   So much more than anything

                   CHORUS

Our Readings:    Psalm 68: 1-10                                             © NIV

May God arise, may his enemies be scattered;
may his foes flee before him.
May you blow them away like smoke –
as wax melts before the fire,
may the wicked perish before God.
But may the righteous be glad
    and rejoice before God;
may they be happy and joyful.

Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
    extol him who rides on the clouds;
rejoice before him – his name is the Lord.
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.
God sets the lonely in families,
    he leads out the prisoners with singing;
but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

When you, God, went out before your people,
when you marched through the wilderness,
the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain,
before God, the One of Sinai,
before God, the God of Israel.
You gave abundant showers, O God;
    you refreshed your weary inheritance.
10 Your people settled in it,
and from your bounty, God, you provided for the poor.

                             John 17: 1-11                                              © NIV

After Jesus said this, he looked towards heaven and prayed:

‘Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

‘I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

HYMN:      IN CHRIST ALONE

                   In‌ ‌Christ‌ ‌alone.‌ ‌my‌ ‌hope‌ ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌

                   He‌ ‌is‌ ‌my‌ ‌light,‌ ‌my‌ ‌strength,‌ ‌my‌ ‌song‌ ‌

                   This‌ ‌Cornerstone,‌ ‌this‌ ‌solid‌ ‌ground‌ ‌

                   Firm‌ ‌through‌ ‌the‌ ‌fiercest‌ ‌drought‌ ‌and‌ ‌storm‌ ‌

                   What‌ ‌heights‌ ‌of‌ ‌love,‌ ‌what‌ ‌depths‌ ‌of‌ ‌peace‌ ‌

                   When‌ ‌fears‌ ‌are‌ ‌stilled,‌ ‌when‌ ‌strivings‌ ‌cease‌ ‌

                   My‌ ‌Comforter,‌ ‌my‌ ‌All‌ ‌in‌ ‌All‌ ‌

                   Here‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌love‌ ‌of‌ ‌Christ‌ ‌I‌ ‌stand.‌ ‌

 ‌

                   In‌ ‌Christ‌ ‌alone,‌ ‌who‌ ‌took‌ ‌on‌ ‌flesh‌ ‌

                   Fullness‌ ‌of‌ ‌God‌ ‌in‌ ‌helpless‌ ‌babe‌ ‌

                   This‌ ‌gift‌ ‌of‌ ‌love‌ ‌and‌ ‌righteousness‌ ‌

                   The‌ ‌wrath‌ ‌of‌ ‌God‌ ‌was‌ ‌satisfied‌ ‌

                   Then‌ ‌bursting‌ ‌forth‌ ‌in‌ ‌glorious‌ ‌Day‌ ‌

                   Up‌ ‌from‌ ‌the‌ ‌grave‌ ‌He‌ ‌rose‌ ‌again‌ ‌

                   And‌ ‌as‌ ‌He‌ ‌stands‌ ‌in‌ ‌victory‌ ‌

                   Sin’s‌ ‌curse‌ ‌has‌ ‌lost‌ ‌its‌ ‌grip‌ ‌on‌ ‌me‌ ‌

                   For‌ ‌I‌ ‌am‌ ‌His‌ ‌and‌ ‌He‌ ‌is‌ ‌mine‌ ‌

 ‌

                   No‌ ‌guilt‌ ‌in‌ ‌life,‌ ‌no‌ ‌fear‌ ‌in‌ ‌death‌ ‌

                   This‌ ‌is‌ ‌the‌ ‌power‌ ‌of‌ ‌Christ‌ ‌in‌ ‌me‌ ‌

Blessing:    May Christ, who makes saints of sinners,

Who has transformed those we remember today,

                   Raise and strengthen you that you may transform the world;

And the blessing of God Almighty,

The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,

Be among you and remain with you always,

All:             Amen.

Leader:        Go in peace of Christ. Alleluia, alleluia.
